Dan Sheetz
got his start in woodworking as a
teenager, when his mother required him
build bookcases for her as a punishment.
He set up a small, makeshift shop in her
basement and produced a crude but sturdy
set of shelves, impressing his mother and
setting the stage for a future in
woodworking. Several years later, Dan
began a career as a commodities broker at
the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He
continued to refine his craft in the
afternoons by building furniture for use
in his own home and as Christmas gifts for
his family. Soon the entire Sheetz family
longed for Dan to choose them in the
Christmas grab bag.
In 1992,
Dan took on the task of building a large
hutch from a design in Fine
Woodworking
Magazine
as a personal challenge. The hutch turned
out beautifully, and he immediately threw
away the magazine and began designing his
own projects. Later that year, Dan left
the Mercantile Exchange and founded
Rainbow Woodworking.
To this
day, Dan maintains a high level of
personal attachment to all of Rainbow's
projects. Each project recieves the same
level craftsmanship and attention to
detail that made the original hutch a
success. Dan will settle for nothing
less.
